12 days in Japan - Day 12 & 13 Tokyo

For our last two days, we explored the bustling districts of Tokyo.

Shibuya

One of the main shopping and business districts, Shibuya is famous for its crossing/intersection where its estimated a whopping 2,500 people cross at one time. You can also find the bronze statue of Hachiko, the heart warming story of the loyal dog whose owner had passed away, but continued to wait for his owner outside Shibuya station.

Tsukiji Market

This is the place where restaurants come to buy their assortment of fish and seafood and the famous tuna auctions. We were fortunate to visit the Tsukiji Market while it was still at the old venue. The wholesale fish market has moved to Toyosu Market, however there is still the outer market with its food stands, restaurants and shops. Try the seafood here as it comes directly from the fish market at Toyosu.

There are lots of food stands at Tsukiji including this one which specialises in Tamagoyaki, a sweet Japanese egg omelette. Its a great place to try different Japanese food.

Akihabara

'Electric town' is the destination for electronics, anime, manga and gaming. You will find multi-storey buildings packed full of of all these, along with maid cafes, which are popular in Japan.

The lightest and fluffiest strawberry cheesecake ever - yum!

Odaiba

An artificial island in Tokyo Bay, Odaiba is a shopping and entertainment district. Amongst the attractions here is the life-size Gundam Statue, the Statue of Liberty, Fuji TV Building and Miraikan the national museum of emerging Science and Innovation.

A must food to try is Kit Kat. You won't believe the many different and unique flavours in Japan. We spotted Chestnut, Saké and caramel pudding Kit Kats. Depending on the season, the flavours change.

More ramen goodness...don't forget to slurp!

It has been an incredible 12 days exploring the amazing culture, history and food in Japan. Its not like any other country I have visited and the people are just the nicest. One day I was in a shopping centre buying some souvenirs for friends and family and trying to carry all my bags, when a shop assistant came over with a large bag and helped me to put all the bags in the one! Its a great country and definitely worth a visit! Thank you to the friends who took the time to meet us on our trip and made it extra special for us.
