3 days in the Cotswold - Stow-on-the-Wold

For our anniversary, the other half decided to take me away for a surprise holiday. Those who know me, will know that Im not very good with surprises! Not knowing where I was going or what we might be doing was a challenge, especially trying to pack.

"Is it Birmingham?"
"No."
"Hmmm...looks like we're heading to South Wales, *looks at street sign* South Wales?"
"No. I can tell you are not very good with surprises.."
"Not at all. What makes you think that?"
*See's a van with an address on the back* "Gloucester?"
"No.."
"Evesham"
"Cheltenham?"
"Maybe..."
*See's a sign for the Cotswolds*
"Ahhhh..Cotswolds?"
"Yep"
"Hurray"

The Cotswolds is such a beautiful place, so peaceful and the views are outstanding. Coming from a big and bustling city, it makes a refreshing change and best of all, you're able to see mother nature in all its glory.

We visited many villages in the Cotswolds and rather than throw everything into one post, I decided to write a snapshot of each village.

Stow-on-the-Wold

As you would expect this town has a lot of character, narrow streets, cobbles, large oak beams and the houses are made from stone in the local quarry. We noticed there were many sheep references. It was only later, we realised the towns former source of trade was wool from sheep in the surrounding hills.

The town is very touristy, not a real word I know! But it is fair to say we did see lots of tour groups around the town. There are many antique shops and vintage boutiques selling chinaware, tables, ornamental pieces, jewellery and typewriters (something my sister has long been searching for..).
Its definitely a great place if your on the hunt for something unique. Stow-on-the-wold is home to The Original Gift Company which has lots of unusual gifts and they also offer personalisation.

In the evening, I was treated to a beautiful three course anniversary dinner at the hotel.

Tartar salmon and cucumber salad

Lamb with seasonal vegetables and potato rosti

Creme brulee with strawberry sorbet

The verdict
A really nice little town with lots of character. A weekend here would be perfect!
