Jubilee weekend in Northumberland - visiting puffin island - The Farne Islands

After a 45min drive to the fishing village Seahouses, we took a cruise over to the Islands. The Islands lie two to three miles off the Northumberland coast. The tour lasts approx 2.3 hrs and you get the chance to see grey seals, seabirds on the cliff and lots of other interesting birds with a full commentary. For anyone who does get motion sickness, I would recommend having some medication ready, as the sea waves can often become turbulant and the boat rocked from side to side.

There is a small fee for landing on the island unless you are a member of the National Trust in which case it is free. We were told to wear protective head gear such as hats and hoods as some of the birds can attack you and often we did see some birds swooping down and landing on top of people's heads. Other than the odd bird squawking and landing on you, they are harmless, after all the birds are just protecting their homes.

Did you know puffins nest in burrows underground?
Resident puffins on the island. How many can you spot?
Guillemots
It was definetly a photographers dream, so dont forget to bring your camera along. It was a great experience to be up close to so many different birds and being able to see them in their natural habitat.
