My Downton Abbey Weekend in Oxford and Newbury Pt2

The adventure continues in Oxford and Newbury....

White Horse Hill, Uffington

Not far from Oxford is a small village called Uffington where you can find White Horse Hill. A National trust site which is free to visit. There is a car parking charge of £2 for two hours. The White Horse is an ancient monument where a chalk figure of a horse lies on the hill top. It is pretty impressive to see the large scale of the horse, yet nobody knows why the horse exists.

Bicester Village

If you love designer brands then this is the place you need to go. Bicester Village is a designer outlet so think of Dior, Gucci, Mulberry, Valentino and Versace, plus so much more brands.

Highclere Castle

The home of Downton Abbey. This castle is breath-taking in its appearance and architecture. Tickets can be purchased at the entrance however these are limited so it is worth booking in advance. As you step inside the Castle you can browse the different rooms at your own leisure. For any big Downton Abbey fans you will get to see the sets including the drawing room, dining room, Lady Edith's room and more (not to ruin the surprise)! The castle is home to the Carnarvon family who have lived here since 1679.  There is also an Egyptian exhibition in the cellars of the Castle.

The grounds are absolutely huge so make sure you take a nice walk round the gardens. We were lucky enough to see some lambs in the next field.

Newbury

We had stopped in Newbury for some lunch and having looked on TripAdvisor, we had decided to grab a pulled pork ciabatta and wrap from BooBars Smokehouse Deli. It was really tasty and we sat outside in the sunshine.

We had went for a walk along the canal and it looked like everyone else had the same idea!

There was a market selling local produce and we were tempted so picked up some homemade cakes to take home.

It has been great in Oxfordshire and we managed to see a lot in the weekend. Highly recommended!
